How the load is carried
- The 28′ roof trusses clear-span the width and land on the two long east and west walls — those are the bearing walls, so the open great room has no interior posts.
- Posts occur at the four corners, along the conservatory’s glazed outer wall about every 4′ carrying its beam, and as jack posts flanking every opening in the bearing walls and at the house-to-conservatory connection.
- Headers sit over every opening: solid amber headers in the east/west bearing walls carry roof load and are sized up; dashed headers in the gable and interior walls are nominal.
- Bracing is braced-wall panels of structural sheathing at corners and intervals (Detail A), plus diagonal knee braces at the conservatory posts since glass adds no rigidity (Detail B). Gable ends and the roof plane get their own bracing.
